Good Grief EP

Cavana Lee is a German-American vocalist, born in the Avant-Garde Improvised Jazz scene. She is the daughter of extraordinary vocalist and educator Jeanne Lee, and renown multi-instrumentalist and composer, Gunter Hampel. Touring across Europe and the USA with her family shaped her relationship to music indefinitely. Growing up in New York City’s East Village, influences of Hip-hop and CBGB add an even more unique sound to her own music.

Cavana Lee returned to Berlin Germany in 1995 which has influenced her mostly analog sound to add digital components. After getting her Masters in Education and establishing workshops to combat climate change, she returned to her family’s practice of making music. She currently gives workshops and plays with different artists in different genres and disciplines, like composing music for independent publisher Blue Boat Books.

Lee is also featured as a vocalist and lyricist on "You Belong - Turn on the Sunlight". This album is a collaboration with multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer Jesse Peterson & friends (i.e. Laraaji, Carlos Niño, Mia Doi Todd and many others) which will be released by Moon Glyph Records October 2022. https://turnonthesunlight.bandcamp.com/track/naturally-feat-cavana-lee

Good Grief was recorded live in Berlin at Zentrifuge at the end of a very topsy-turvy 2020. The 3 track EP is the first release of her own music, compositions, and lyrics. Songs are titled Good Grief, a ballad for her mom; I’ve Got It, a smooth protest song; and Transdimensional, a more traditionally avant-garde piece. On Grief

Cavana Lee

"I’ve learned that Grief is all the Love you have, ready to give, but it has nowhere to land. That's a super painful state to be in.

Once Grief lands, Love can again flow freely, and that feels pretty good.”
